Past Visiting Fellows
Two of the United Kingdom’s leading experts on spinal cord injury have already successfully applied in previous rounds of the Spinal Exchange Visiting Fellowships Program: Dr Paul Kennedy of the Stoke Mandeville Hospital visited Sydney in August/September 2005, and Professor Peter Ellaway of the Imperial College visited in January/February 2006. During their stay, the Visiting Fellows collaborated on local clinical research and applications, enabling NSW medical professionals to learn from new techniques and approaches being used in the UK, and to build on existing expertise.
Dr Kennedy was hosted by the Rehabilitation Studies Unit at the Royal Rehabilitation Centre. His work focused on psycho-social support and management, rehabilitation planning and therapies. During his stay, Dr Kennedy provided comprehensive education and information including a lecture program, workshops, individual supervision and training, interviews and practice reviews with multi-professional groups of nurses, medical staff, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, clinical psychologists and service users.
