NSW Scientist of the Year Awards
This newly launched annual award aims to identify and promote cutting edge research that adds economic value either directly (through the creation of investment, jobs and skills) or indirectly (by providing science/technological solutions).
The NSW Scientist of the Year Award will be granted to an outstanding individual whose research undertaken within the last five years in NSW has addressed a major scientific, technological or health question, challenge or problem and has made the greatest contribution to the State.

Young Tall Poppy Science Awards
Sponsored by the NSW Office for Science and Medical Research, the Young Tall Poppy (YTP) Science Awards recognise the achievements of Australia’s young scientific researchers across all scientific disciplines. Selection criteria for the awards include outstanding scholarship and research achievements, communication skills and community engagement.
In 2001, the first 8 NSW-based Young Tall Poppies were recognised. 13 NSW and ACT-based Young Tall Poppies were awarded in 2007.
The YTP Science Awards also provide recipients with an opportunity to act as role models by promoting and encouraging an interest in science within education and the broader community. The recipients help inspire students to consider a career in science or scientific research through the Tall Poppies Reaching Kids Program, whereby the State’s best and brightest young scientists visit schools to talk to students about science.

Jamie Callachor Eureka Prize for Medical Research
The Australian Museum Eureka Prizes aim to promote and reward outstanding science. Designed to encourage and reward emerging medical researchers, the OSMR Eureka Prize is the Jamie Callachor Eureka Prize for Medical Research, named in memory a valued colleague of OSMR who passed away unexpectedly in 2005.
The 2006 prize was awarded for research into neuroscience while in 2007, it was awarded for research into cardiovascular diseases. In 2008, the prize will be awarded for research into multiple sclerosis (MS).
